Keep the work you need to find again

Rewind AI Alternative and Rewind Replacement for Your Own Files

You paid Rewind to remember what you read, wrote and said. After the shutdown, the useful question is what you still need to find. MentalClone puts your exported transcripts, notes, documents and emails in a private library that answers in your words. It does not record your screen or audio.

Answers only from your uploads, with a clear response when the answer is missing.

The short answer

MentalClone is a Rewind AI alternative for searching your own files, including exported text transcripts. It answers only from uploaded material, in your register, and says when the material does not cover a question. It does not replace continuous capture. For always-on screen recording, Screenpipe or Microsoft Recall on Copilot+ PCs fits better.

Keep the words behind the decision

Rewind launched on Mac in 2022 with screen capture, OCR and search. In April 2024, the company became Limitless and launched a $99 wearable pendant. Meta acquired Limitless on December 5, 2025. The team moved to Reality Labs, pendant sales stopped, and existing pendant customers received support for a year.

Losing capture is disruptive when your working memory depends on it. But a question about an agreed scope or a research interview often needs the words, rather than a replay. An uploaded transcript can sit beside the proposal or memo that gives those words context.

What to do with your Rewind export

Start with a question whose answer you remember. You are moving readable material into a library, rather than restoring the Rewind timeline. Keep your original export somewhere you control.

1

Export transcripts as text

Use the export available in the Rewind app to preserve text transcripts. Old Rewind recordings cannot become a working archive in another tool. Screenpipe explicitly says its app cannot import them.

2

Upload to MentalClone

Upload the exported TXT files. Give them useful names so you recognize the meeting or subject later. A file can be up to 100 MB. Keep the originals alongside your other source files.

3

Add your notes and documents

Include the proposals, research notes and emails behind the conversations. MentalClone reads PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, RTF, TXT, Markdown, EPUB, EML, PowerPoint, scanned pages and JPG, PNG or HEIC images through OCR.

4

Ask about the actual work

Ask what you agreed, how you described a method, or where your notes disagree. Compare an answer with the source material. Then ask something absent from the files to check how it handles the gap.

Already keeping notes elsewhere? ZIP vault exports from Obsidian, Logseq, Bear and Notion support up to 2000 notes. Add those written records beside the transcripts rather than expecting an old recording to contain every document you need.

Rewind replacements compared by the work they keep

Vendor prices below are in USD as published on their own pricing pages. Choose the kind of record you need before comparing subscriptions.

Tool What it captures Where data lives Price Best for
MentalClone Uploaded documents and text transcripts, no recording Your private uploaded library in MentalClone Starter $49/month or $288/year ($24/month) Questions across your own written work
Screenpipe Screen and microphone on Mac, Windows and Linux Local recording on your computer Paid plans from $25/month Continuous screen and audio capture
Microsoft Recall Screen activity on eligible Copilot+ PCs Check Windows storage settings and policy Included with Windows 11 on Copilot+ PCs only Screen recall on eligible Windows hardware
Littlebird Plus Cloud assistant watching screen and meetings Cloud $20/month or $17/month billed yearly A screen and meeting assistant
Granola Business Meeting notes Check vendor storage policy $14/user/month Keeping a written meeting record

Storage policy entries mark details to confirm with the vendor. A document library, a screen recorder and a meeting notes app preserve different things.

Find the answer you already worked out

The value is often in finding your own reasoning again. Put the material behind that reasoning in the library, then ask the question in the language of your work.

Consultants

Ask what you recommended, what the scope included and why you chose that approach. Keep the approved report beside the meeting transcript so a passing suggestion does not stand in for your final position.

Coaches

Bring your written frameworks, exercises and session transcripts together. Ask how you explained an exercise before writing a follow-up. The answer uses your register, rather than turning your method into generic coaching advice.

Researchers

Question interview transcripts alongside field notes and analysis memos. Ask where your recorded observations support an interpretation, and where the uploaded record leaves a gap. Keep your own analysis available alongside the words participants used.

Founders

Find the reasoning behind a product choice across planning notes, customer transcripts and emails. Ask what you committed to before drafting the next update, rather than relying on a remembered fragment of a call.

When a screen recorder fits better

If your essential question is what appeared on your screen before you thought to save it, choose a screen recorder. MentalClone cannot recover an unsaved page or listen to a meeting for you. It has no screen recording, voice, video avatar or website widget.

Screen and microphone history

Screenpipe records locally on Mac, Windows and Linux. It fits when continuous capture is the feature you miss, rather than questions across documents you already have.

Windows screen recall

Microsoft Recall is included with Windows 11 on Copilot+ PCs only. Check your hardware eligibility before treating it as a replacement for the Mac recording workflow.

A cloud screen assistant

Littlebird watches screen and meetings as a cloud assistant. Compare that ongoing capture model with the deliberate file uploads that define a MentalClone library.

Meeting notes first

Granola Business fits a meeting notes workflow. If your main loss is a written record of calls, compare that need separately from replaying screen activity or searching your document archive.

Starter costs $49 a month or $288 a year ($24 a month). Professional is $99 a month or $588 a year ($49 a month). Enterprise is $199 a month or $1188 a year ($99 a month). Try the demo with 3 questions and no account before choosing a plan.

For client work, private links let recipients ask without an account, with up to 100 questions a day per link and up to 20 active links. Links are revocable. Review your library before sharing it, especially when transcripts contain material from different engagements.

Rewind AI alternative questions

What happened to Rewind AI?

Meta acquired Limitless, formerly Rewind, on December 5, 2025, and the team moved to Reality Labs. Pendant sales stopped, with existing pendant customers receiving support for a year. On December 19, 2025, screen and audio capture in the Rewind Mac app were disabled.

Is Rewind AI shut down?

Yes, Rewind no longer provides screen and audio capture in its Mac app. Capture stopped on December 19, 2025, and subscribers moved to a free plan with export or deletion available in the app. Service ended in the EU, UK, Brazil, China, Israel, South Korea and Turkey.

What is the best Rewind AI alternative?

MentalClone fits when you used Rewind to find your own notes, documents, emails and meeting transcripts. It answers only from uploads, in your register. For continuous screen recording, Screenpipe or Microsoft Recall on a Copilot+ PC fits better. Choose according to what you need to retrieve.

Is there a Rewind AI alternative for Windows?

Yes. Screenpipe records screen and microphone locally on Windows, and Microsoft Recall is included with Windows 11 on Copilot+ PCs only. MentalClone fits a different Windows workflow, uploading documents and exported transcripts to a private library, then asking questions without recording your screen or audio.

Can I import my Rewind data into another app?

You can upload exported text transcripts to MentalClone, but you cannot import old Rewind recordings as a working recording archive. Screenpipe also says old Rewind recordings cannot be imported into its app. Preserve your text exports, then add the original notes and documents you want to search alongside them.

Does MentalClone record my screen?

No. MentalClone does not record your screen or audio. It answers questions only from material you upload, including notes, documents, email files and exported transcripts. It has no voice, video avatar or website widget. If you need continuous capture, choose a screen recorder for that part of your workflow.

How much does a Rewind replacement cost?

Screenpipe paid plans start at $25 monthly, Littlebird Plus is $20 monthly or $17 with annual billing, and Granola Business is $14 per user monthly. Recall comes with eligible Copilot+ PCs. MentalClone Starter costs $49 monthly or $288 annually, equivalent to $24 monthly, for a document library without recording.
