For people whose work laptop is not a Mac
Elephas Alternative for Windows and Elephas AI Pricing for Your Client Files
Short answer: Elephas is a Mac and iPhone app. Its Super Brain indexes your PDFs, contracts and notes on the Mac, and plans list at $19, $39 and $49 a month, with Windows still on a waitlist. If you work on Windows, Linux or a locked-down company laptop and want the same thing, a library of your own files that answers questions, MentalClone runs in any browser and answers only from what you upload, in your own voice.
Paste a page of your own writing into the box and ask it something. Three questions, no account, nothing to install.

Is there an Elephas alternative for Windows?
Yes, and the reason people search for one is simple. Elephas is built for Apple Silicon Macs and the iPhone, and its own site says Windows is next, with a waitlist sign-up. If your firm issues Dell or Lenovo laptops, or IT does not let you install desktop apps at all, the Super Brain you read about is not available to you today.
MentalClone is a web app. You sign in from Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, upload the files, and ask. Nothing gets installed, so it works the same on a personal Mac at home and a managed Windows machine at the office.
Elephas AI pricing plan by plan
The Elephas pricing page lists three paid plans on monthly billing, with a yearly toggle marked "Save ~17%". There is also a free version you can download first. The top plan is pitched at client work under NDA and comes with 1,000 credits every month under a fair use policy.
Standard
$19 a month
- AI chat and writing across your Mac
- Works with your PDFs, notes and files
- Local-first indexing, sensitive data redacted
Professional

- Everything in Standard
- Built for daily work across documents and notes
- Higher AI usage than Standard
Sensitive Work

- Optional offline AI workflows
- 1,000 credits a month, onboarding call
For comparison, MentalClone Starter is 1,194 PLN a year, about $27 a month, or 199 PLN (about $54) month to month, with unlimited documents and messages. Professional is 399 PLN a month, about $108, and reads three times more of your documents for every answer. Elephas is cheaper on a monthly plan. The question is whether the cheaper tool runs on the computer you actually work on. Full details are on the MentalClone pricing page.
Elephas alternatives compared for client files
Six tools people weigh against Elephas when the job is asking questions of their own documents. Prices are list prices from each vendor's own page.
| Tool | Price | Runs on | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elephas | $19, $39 or $49 a month, about 17% off yearly | Mac and iOS, Windows on a waitlist | Mac users who want local indexing, redaction and offline mode | No Windows or Linux build today |
| MentalClone | About $27 a month billed yearly (1,194 PLN), $54 monthly | Any browser | Asking years of your own reports and notes, answered in your voice | Cloud processing, no offline mode, no mobile app |
| Copilot Notebooks | Inside Microsoft 365 Copilot, $30 per user a month on annual billing | Windows, web, Mac | Teams whose files already live in OneDrive and SharePoint | Tied to one Microsoft tenant |
| Gemini Notebook (NotebookLM) | Free tier, paid tiers inside Google AI plans | Browser, mobile | One research project at a time, with cited answers | 50 sources per notebook on the free tier |
| ChatGPT Projects | $20 a month for Plus | Browser, Windows, Mac, mobile | Drafting alongside a handful of reference files | 25 files per project on Plus |
| Obsidian with Copilot Plus | App free, Copilot Plus $14.99 a month | Windows, Mac, Linux, mobile | People who write their notes in Obsidian | PDFs and scans are not its strength |
If your notes already live in Obsidian, the Obsidian Copilot alternative page covers that setup in detail, and the Gemini Notebook alternative page goes deeper on Google's per-notebook limits. For the Microsoft route, see Copilot Notebooks pricing and license cost.
Where Elephas is the better choice
Be clear about this before you switch. Elephas indexes files on your own Mac, redacts 28 types of sensitive data (names, account numbers, Social Security numbers, case numbers) before anything reaches a cloud model, and has an offline mode that runs entirely on the machine. It also works as a writing assistant inside every Mac app, from Outlook to Slack.
MentalClone does none of that. Your files are stored in your account, and the text pulled out of them is sent to our AI model provider to produce each answer. If a client contract forbids any cloud processing, or you need answers on a plane with Wi-Fi off, stay on Elephas and a Mac.
Where MentalClone is the better fit: you are not on a Mac, you want to share a question link with a client instead of sending files, or you want answers phrased the way you write rather than in a generic assistant tone.
How moving a Super Brain to MentalClone works
Gather the source files
Elephas indexes files that stay in their folders, so the originals are still on your disk. Collect the PDFs, Word files and spreadsheets for one client or project.
Upload or import
Upload files up to 100 MB each. Markdown notes from Obsidian or Bear go in as one zipped vault, up to 2,000 notes per import.
Ask in plain English
Ask what you would ask a colleague who read everything. The answer comes only from your files and names the document it used.
Share when it helps
Create a share link so a client or colleague can ask questions too. Revoke it whenever you like.
Who switches from Elephas, and why
Consultants on a company Windows laptop
The firm issues Windows machines and blocks installs. A browser tool is the only kind they can use for years of engagement reports.
Coaches and advisors who answer the same questions
They want clients to ask a link built from their own playbooks and get answers in their tone, not a generic summary.
Writers with a mixed Mac and PC setup
A Mac at home and a PC at work means a Mac-only index covers half the week. A web library is the same on both.
Questions people ask about Elephas alternatives
Is Elephas AI available for Windows?
+
Not yet. Elephas runs on Mac and iOS, and its website offers a waitlist for a Windows version with no release date. Windows users who want a knowledge base of their own files need a browser-based tool such as MentalClone, Gemini Notebook or ChatGPT Projects, or Copilot Notebooks inside Microsoft 365.
What is the best Elephas alternative for Windows?
+
For a personal library of reports, contracts and notes that answers in your own voice, MentalClone. If your files already sit in OneDrive and SharePoint and your company pays for Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Notebooks. For one research project with cited sources, Gemini Notebook.
How much does Elephas cost?
+
Elephas lists Standard at $19 a month, Professional at $39 and Sensitive Work at $49, with yearly billing saving about 17%. The Sensitive Work plan includes 1,000 credits a month under a fair use policy, a redaction inspector and optional offline AI. Teams get a quote through a form.
Is Elephas free?
+
There is a free version to download and try on a Mac, and Elephas tells you to upgrade when your work demands it. Regular work across a document library runs on the paid plans from $19 a month, and the free version does not change the platform limit: it is still Mac only.
Does Elephas work offline?
+
Yes. Elephas has an offline mode that runs AI entirely on your Mac, and its files are indexed locally on every plan. MentalClone does not work offline. It is a web app that needs a connection, and it sends the text of your files to an AI model provider to answer.
Can MentalClone read my Obsidian notes like Elephas does?
+
Yes, through an import rather than a live connection. Zip the vault and upload it: one import takes up to 2,000 markdown notes and 300 MB of text and skips settings and trash. Notes you add later go in as a new import or individual uploads. It does not write anything back to your vault.
