For people who sell their expertise

Capacities Alternative for Consultants and Coaches

Capacities is built for organizing notes as objects and links. If you need something that answers questions from the reports, transcripts and notes you already have, and lets a client ask too, MentalClone does that without you rebuilding anything in a graph.

Answers only from your uploads, in your voice, and says so when the files do not cover a question.

The short answer

MentalClone is a Capacities alternative for professionals whose notes already exist as files. Upload PDFs, Word documents, transcripts or a Markdown vault and ask questions that are answered only from that material. Capacities fits better if you want to structure notes as typed objects and build a daily-notes habit inside one app.

Why people leave Capacities for a library of their own files

The notes are not in Capacities yet

Capacities rewards you for modeling your knowledge as objects such as people, books and meetings. Years of client reports and call transcripts sit in folders. Rebuilding them as objects is weeks of work. Uploading them is an afternoon.

AI costs more on top

Capacities Pro includes a light monthly AI budget, and a larger one comes through the Plus add-on at about $8.33 a month billed yearly. If answering questions is the whole point, that is a second bill on top of the subscription.

Clients cannot ask your notes

A Capacities space is yours. MentalClone can hand a client a private link where they ask questions of the material you chose, with no account, up to 100 questions a day per link and 20 active links, revocable at any time.

Move from Capacities in four steps

1

Export your notes

Capacities can export content as Markdown or PDF. Keep the export somewhere you control before you change anything.

2

Upload the files

MentalClone reads PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, RTF, TXT, Markdown, EPUB, EML, PowerPoint and scanned pages. A ZIP vault takes up to 2000 notes.

3

Ask a question you know the answer to

Check the reply against your source. If the files do not cover a question, the answer says so instead of guessing.

4

Share a private link

Give a client a revocable link for the material that concerns them, or keep the library to yourself.

Capacities alternative questions

What is the best Capacities alternative?

It depends on the job. MentalClone fits when your knowledge already sits in documents and you want answers from them, including for clients. For note taking with links, Obsidian and Logseq are closer to Capacities. Pick by whether you organize notes or retrieve answers from files.

How much does Capacities cost?

Capacities Basic is free. Pro is listed at $9.99 to $11.99 a month depending on the page, and Believer starts from $12.49 a month. The Plus add-on with a larger AI budget is about $8.33 a month billed yearly. Verify on the Capacities pricing page before buying.

Can I import my Capacities notes into MentalClone?

Export your Capacities content as Markdown or PDF and upload the files. MentalClone reads those formats, and a ZIP vault accepts up to 2000 notes. Object types and graph links do not carry over as structure, but the text is searchable and answerable.

Does MentalClone replace Capacities for daily notes?

No. MentalClone has no note editor. It answers questions from files you upload, in your own register. If you write daily notes inside an app, keep using one and upload the exports to MentalClone when you need answers across the archive.

Can clients ask questions of my notes?

Yes. A private link lets a client ask without creating an account, up to 100 questions a day per link. You can keep up to 20 links active and revoke any of them at once. The client only reaches the material you placed in the library.
